HP Active Collection Launch

From Field to Fashion -
Treading in the divots at Ham Polo Club

Last week we unveiled HP Active – our new collection of performance sporting and leisurewear at the magnificent Ham Polo Club in Richmond.

HP Active is the second collection from Hurlingham Polo 1875, the Hurlingham Polo Association’s new sporting and lifestyle brand, created in partnership with The King of Games.

Hats off to the club for organising the sunshine, delicious food, hospitality and first rate playing conditions! The combination of the venue and a great turnout created the perfect day.

We were delighted to welcome our global brand ambassador Fred Mannix who joined us with his family on the day. Fred, one of the best players in the world has a handicap of 8. He was delighted to be chosen as the brand ambassador for Hurlingham Polo 1875 when we launched at the end of last year.  Hurlingham Polo 1875 sponsors England Polo and our logo adorns the shirts of Fred’s famous Alegria team.  At the launch Fred observed: “It’s fundamental for a professional polo player to be properly outfitted, and look and perform like a pro. From the players’ perspective, if you look good, you feel good, and if you feel good, you play better!”

Fred mingled with guests at the champagne reception and opened the exhibition match after lunch. And what a lunch! David Woodd, the Chief Executive of Hurlingham Polo Association who was joined by his deputy Ollie Hughes delivered a cracking speech which had our guests laughing into their drinks.

We were also delighted to welcome England team members Jack Richardson and Tom Morley.

It was fantastic to see the polo press represented in force, so heartfelt thanks to Polo Times, Polo Magazine, Pololine and The Gaitpost, to name but a few, who joined us along with the lifestyle and luxury media. Everyone expressed real enthusiasm for the brand and commented on the quality and range of colours within the various collections on display in the clubhouse.

The beautifully displayed merchandise was a big hit. Launching online this month, HP Active is our new collection designed for active and sporting lifestyles and is equally great for leisure. They’re all beautifully designed and made, cut to facilitate free and easy movement, with fabrics that combine comfort, style and function. Stylishly branded HPA, they include base layer, polo shirts, hoodies, jackets and gilets – premium quality clothing, that actively lives up to our values of authenticity, integrity, unity, quality and style. Without exception, our guests said they very impressed by the merits of our collections.

We were also joined by a number of famous faces including sports presenter Seema Jaswal, Nicola Hughes – from Made in Chelsea and the artist Richard Hadfield who made his name as part of Collabro – winners of Britain’s Got Talent in 2014.

Certainly one of the joys of our day at Ham was that there was an opportunity for people who have never experienced polo to see for themselves the thunder of ponies at full tilt and the lightning skill of the players. Prior to the match, we went one step further to give the uninitiated a taste of the sport on the backs of our wooden training polo ‘ponies’. Guests were invited to sit on a stationary ‘horse’ while attempting to hit a ball or two with a stick. This was a source of some hilarity as we experienced a couple of near misses when over enthusiastic guests gave it too good a go. Our grateful thanks to our eager young brand ambassadors helping train our guests, namely Hugo Taylor, Luke Wiles and Tommy Severn, without whom the afternoon’s diversions would not have raced along so heartily!

In the wake of our successful day at Ham, there is more excitement to come later this year when our premium lifestyle clothing collection Made in Britain is launched.  So stand by for the third chukka!
