Sunday 2nd July proved a very successful win for Shalimar against Snake Bite for the Hildon Archie David Cup
with our Young Ambassador Milly Hine named by Polo Magazine as the most valuable player.
Kassem Shafi’s team won UK’s leading 8-goal tournament with a clean win of 8-5.
Kicking off the match, Vieri Antinori showed the team’s intent from the very beginning, sweeping up the first goal in less than 60 seconds. Team mate Milly Hine, our Young Ambassador, soon followed suit, giving Shalimar a valuable lead. Milly, only 15 years old, not only played well above her handicap but also showed her huge polo ability, as she had no qualms in defending their lead against higher-handicapped opposition.
Milly was later named The Polo Magazine Most Valuable Player, which being the youngest on the field, comes as a huge success for the Young Gun.
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the tournament. First played for as the Friar Park Trophy (named after the home of Major Archie David) back in 1957. Since then, the popularity of this tournament is undeniable. The competition often breaks records for the number of teams entered, with last year seeing as many as 30 squads taking part. With such a high number of teams taking part, every game ensures fierce competition.
